He practiced
professionally as a commercial artist in Detroit 30 years before
receiving an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1987.
His new love of teaching inspired him to become a student at the
Academy. Currently lives in Los Angeles,
taught at the California Institute of the Arts where
he still teaches today and published his own unique work in
many design publications and anthologies. His work is in the National
Design Museum and MOMA in New York. His spare time is
devoted to self expression and experimentation with typography.
He started his drawing and typography work in
sketchbooks which are viewed on his website. He has
drawn in sketchbooks for over thirty-seven years. Fellas do
everything by hand, a true artist in every sense. He built his career
over 30 years in the profession of design are still using pencils,
pens, pencils, knives, etc., by refusing to use the computer. Ed
Fella said, ".. there comes a time when you need to pack them
and retire .. stop, do not compete with the current generation .. let
all the money, all the work, all the glory of the Thirty years is not
enough. Do not want to be burned and may have another career. "
Colors are used most often
in a specific word, usually the colors were painted using the color
pencil as you can also notice by the way of letters painted. Another
technique which reminds me of fantasies, but combined with the
elegance of the black colour. In just one drawing, you can even find
a four produced fonts, different from each other.
